S.H. Figuarts Machine Decader

The Kamen Rider franchise has been a gold mine for Bandai Japan especially with the introduction of the S.H. Figuarts toyline. And to top that, there have been numerous exclusive limited releases as well.

Just so happened that this time round, it's one of the 2 Kamen Rider series that I collect: the Bike for Kamen Rider Decade - Machine Decader.

Out of so many bikes, why does it have to be this one? Hahah. Probably because Decade is the anniversary series. Sigh.

Was at CSC today but I totally didn't expect the price tag to be that high. I briefly recalled that a normal bike (e.g the Kamen Rider W Bike) would go for around S$65, so I was thinking around S$85-90 despite whether I was considering buying.

In the end, this one ended up with the price tag of S$125.00 in Ng's Collections. Just one and only one bike. Hahah, that is way out of my budget. So I can only whine about the lack of a bike for my Kamen Rider Figuarts. LoL.

Wonder Gosei-Great, Kourin!

Just for kicks, I took out DX Gosei-Wonder as well as the 4 required Gosei-Machine bodies.

Come to think of it, DX Gosei-Wonder is freaking expensive for 1 Body + 5 Headders (S$70.00) when DX Gosei-Great is S$90.00 for 5 Bodies + 5 Headders. Anyway, this is another mini-review...

This is the standard movie-debut mecha which will appear in the series at a much later time. In its traditional sense, it is usually a rehash (fans are used to calling them repaints) of the main robo in the series or additional gattai mecha. Some notable examples are Engine Daishogun (Go-Onger) and Bakurenoh (Abaranger).

Honestly, I was more disappointed in Gosei-Wonder than Gosei-Ultimate because of the plain laziness in the execution of the design concept. The idea itself wasn't too bad but the final result looked terrible.

Bandai probably saved alot of paint in the process because there are so little painted details which resulted in a very monotonous look. The Gosei-Bird is almost enirely lavender. Gosei-Dragon, on the other hand, looks terrific. And everyone got matching colors except for Pink who landed up with a brown Kabuto (Beetle) Headder. Quite a number of complaints from other collectors as well.

In the combined form, the additional helmet piece looked nice but the Crocodile Headder (fine in individual form) and Kabuto Headder are obviously out of place with the length and color.

Therefore, Wonder Gosei-Great pales in comparison with the Engine Daishogun, Bakurenoh or SaintKaiser among all the repaints.

If I were PLEX or Bandai, I might as well release the entire robo with all the bodies and headders (using the same design) but with different colors for all the mecha. In other words, it means that the Kabuto Headder can get a brown body and the Elephant Headder need not be yellow etc.

Gosei-Ultimate, Kourin!

You can call this a little review if you like.

Just feeling random, I decided to open up the DX Gosei-Ultimate one afternoon.

First of all, I should probably mention that Gosei-Ultimate as the last mecha of the Goseiger series is quite out of place for its concept and design. Well, it's like a spaceship or futuristic jet (with design elements of Megaranger's Delta Mega and Timeranger's Time Robo) in contrast to the rest of the animalized vehicle mecha like Gosei-Great and Gosei-Ground.

Ok, Datas Hyper was out of place as well for an arcade machine. However, that was just to constantly remind or trick the kids to play the Dice-O card game (like Animal Kaiser). So in conclusion, Gosei-Ultimate is still a odd design choice especially with the Master Head design in the chest area.

When I took it out of the box, I was frankly surprised that this toy was alot more heavier than I expected. The plastic is very solid and sturdy. Thumbs up for Bandai Japan! Not to mention that the chromed Miracle Gosei Headders really stand out, but scary and hard to maintain in the long run.

I got to admit... Prior to taking this out of the box, I was honestly unimpressed and regarded it more like a piece to complete the collection. And so with everything taken out, I started to transform it into the "spaceship" mode. *I always try to figure it out by myself and not look at the instructions.

Official Name: Gosei-Ultimate (Machine Mode)

Again, I was alittle surprised because I thought it was super simple from the show. The toy exactly required alittle more accurate turning of joints to fit into the respective correct positions. I kinda like that...

In its "spaceship" mode, the 5 Miracle Gosei Headders are prominently displayed in their chromed glory but weird in the design sense due to the 5 "holes" in the body.

Nothing much to mention about the Robo Mode, with the usual limited articulation points for all the Sentai Mecha.

It's just that after actually transforming and holding it do I gain more appreciation for Gosei-Ultimate. It is nice in its own regard and should not be treated as "just another piece of toy that completes the collection".

What A Joke!

Saw this advertisement on the MRT train sometime ago and in particular, noticed the following below:

Invasion! – An explosion of popular culture and toys In conjunction with Trans-Cool Tokyo exhibition
5 Dec, 10am – 6pm
Free Admission

"Come experience the magic and uniqueness of Japanese popular culture, with contemporary Japanese art from the Museum of Tokyo and colourful cosplay characters to interact with. This promises to be an incredible day of live music and art-based activities. You can also seize this chance to shop for unique Christmas gifts at the premiere toy carnival presenting the latest collectibles for young and old. This is one Japanese invasion you won’t want to miss!"

So, I was feeling rather down because of FYP and decided to check it out. Given the "hype" and the marketing gimmick, it does seems promising isn't it? But I was already mentally prepared; can't really expect much of such events...

While on my way, I was thinking like finishing looking around in around 30 minutes and end the short trip (which was also for some breather). Ok, that sounds bad right? Actually, it's just me unmotivated about FYP.

I pretty much got a shock when I reached there. The size of the whole event was only slightly larger than my living room! I am serious. It doesn't even take 5 minutes to walk the whole round?! Basically, it's 3 rows of tables selling some Star Wars, Transformers and the Soldier Dolls, with a little cosplayers in the center. The small booth selling STGCC 2010 doesn't count...

One word. PATHETIC.

I can't rationalise why the Museum Roundtable would include this as part of the highlights for this Explore Singapore event. That joke is not even an event per se, and what would tourists think if they happen to be there? It would be a disgrace in this case, and it certainly isn't the way to attract people (both Singaporeans and tourists) to visit museums.

Doesn't even look like they tried...

Gosei-Completion

DX Gosei-Wonder + DX Gosei-Ultimate

Finally got these two today to round up the Goseiger DX Mecha Series.

These two actually arrived during the end of last month (according to the forum sighting), but I didn't have time to check them out. Since I ended my examination today at 3pm, I thought I might as well go down to CSC to settle them in one go, because it's the dreadful FYP after the examinations and by then they would be sold out.

Two sets of each left, and the Uncle was quick to recognise that I have not gotten them. LoL~ His memory is still pretty good!

Hahah, some advice from the Uncle: "Undergraduates nowadays are so common and working only earns you the little salary, so how about further studies or venturing out on your own? Come out with something innovative! Or how about buying over my shop? Hahah!"

And, it's S$185.00 for both.

Power Rangers RPM In Stores!

Power Rangers RPM Toys out in stores! Get In Gear!

Pretty excited about this toyline, especially the action figures this time round (compared to the shitty Sentai Hero Figures for Go-Onger). For once, Bandai America finally did something right after so many years!

The Power Rangers themselves are not on steroids, plus all the weapons and accessories are included with the figures! In other words, they are like the BEST set of complete action figures that Bandai America has released to date.

What more can I ask for? I totally didn't expect them to have nice quality plastic and paint as well! Saw them and the packages in person today, so I was really impressed by the quality control.

Guess what? They are retailing at S$16.95 each, back to the normal action figure pricing for recent years. The only anomaly was Jungle Fury's hyper inflation of S$24.95 for each figure and frankly that shocked everyone. Who in the world would pay that amount of money to buy an action figure?

Another worthy series of the toyline would be the Microzord Sets (similar to Bandai Japan's Candy Toy Kits) at S$24.95 each. For those on a budget, they can also form the RPM Ultrazord. I'm also looking forward to the DX Formula Megazords for RPM, currently retailing at S$69.95 each. RPM Ultrazord Formation!

On a related note, Jungle Fury is still having its clearance but have yet to reach its lowest price. I guess Sheng Tai Toys is trying to hold out as long as possible because the series hasn't been very positive due to the horrible price tags.

Power Rangers RPM premieres Nov 20, 2010 on OKTO!

Saban or Not, Bandai America has done it again!

With the return of Saban Brands and the upcoming Power Rangers Samurai, Bandai America is getting ready to launch its new toyline for the series!

Many hoped that with the return of Haim Saban back into the scene, Power Rangers Toys would once again revert back into its roots of quality and the Japanese Molds, which suffered heavily during Disney's era of the franchise.

Apparently not! With or without Saban, Bandai America has decided to go ahead with its usual business model and what's "best" for the company in such an US economy.

Recently, images of the upcoming toyline have surfaced on the Internet, and garnered much attention of the fan communities, more negative less positive. Some speculated that these toys could have been long planned by Bandai America for release with or without the show to back it up, hence the heavily altered designs. We shall see...

*Click for larger image*

Personally, I think they are hideous unless they are going to be the designs for a movie release. In that case, kids might find it cooler. But who cares, I am going for the S.H. Figuarts that Bandai Japan is releasing next year. It seems that Bandai Japan finally saw its weakness for the lack of quality action figures.

Pictured: S.H. Figuarts - ShinkenRed

Again, the Zords are heavily butchered this time round. I ran some comparisons with the original Shinken-Oh, and concluded that these would be unable to transform into the Emblem "Origami" Mode. Even some transformations have been drastically altered.

*Click for larger image*

What's up with the Blue Puppy, I mean Dragon? Seriously Bandai America, do you always have to go to such extents? This is officially worse than Operation Overdrive.

Still No DX GoseiWonder...

Went to CSC today, considering it's pretty rare that I can actually squeeze out some time to slack even though I'm a natural slacker.

Nothing new at Ng's Collections at all; the Uncle is unable to secure any stocks for DX Gosei-Wonder or any of the Kamen Rider OOO stuff which the rest of the customers kept pestering him. Hahah...

Well, DX Gosei-Wonder was released in August and yet it's still not imported! Looks like I just have to wait for DX Gosei-Ultimate and get them together to save the trouble.

On a sidenote, Uncle was feeling very restless today and was talking about random things. Mediacorp was filming some documentary show (with host Chen Hanwei) beside his shop, but the Uncle was slightly irritated that the production team did not come and greet him as a kind gesture.

Then, he pointed out that even Edison Chen (whom he referred to as an International Star) was more polite than them. LoL, he showed me the photo of him and Edison together with another famous fashion designer. I didn't notice that photo in his shop at all. He also added another random remark, saying that both Edison and him are lechers!

Confirmed: Power Rangers Samurai

Power Rangers Samurai is now the official title for the 18th season premiering next year; although it was the same as the given initial working title.

Right now, the only confusing issue is that the series will span over 2 years with 40 episodes? We can only wait and see...

However, the character names for the cast have now been completely changed:

*Click for larger image*

Now, the Green Ranger has a name that is repeated; "Mike" was first used for the Magna Defender in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy (7th season). No big deal, we have two "Katherines" as well in the past - MMPR and PRSPD.

On a sidenote, the new logo looks kinda ugly right?

DX GoseiGround + KR Decade Violent Emotion

After a month of delay, DX GoseiGround has finally arrived but in limited quantity.

So, I headed down to CSC to get it after calling the Uncle.

I really like the design, the overall look of the combined form and both Groundion and Skyon (reminds me of Kirov Airship). On the contrary, Sealeon is considerably ugly compared to the other two. Hahah.

The Uncle marked out a price of S$105.00 on a piece of cardboard, but quoted me for S$90.00. Wee!

S.H Figuarts Kamen Rider Decade Violent Emotion

Bandai Japan is really ~!@#$%^&*. Hahahah, conning people to spend more money to get this updated version of the earlier released Kamen Rider Decade. Another S$40.00 gone.

Goseiger Sentai Hero Figures

Least expect Takashimaya to push out Goseiger Toys on shelves since Sheng Tai Toys has been displaying irregular patterns in recent years.

Anyway, all the Goseiger Toys are "On Sale" now, at prices comparable to the Japanese Retail and CSC. So, it's very reasonable to get anything!

Which also gave me a very good excuse to waste more money...

Considered for 30 minutes before I convinced myself to get the Goseiger Sentai Hero Figures. Got them only and only because of the Dice-O cards which were only available for Japanese First Press, hence rare to a certain extent. These are Bandai Asia Import Versions though, so I am not sure if the cards are First Press only as well.

Still, what matters is that I got the cards now. S$74.75 (or S$14.95 each) for the core 5. Can you believe that the original mark-up price is S$27.95 per figure? Crazy right?

Rain...

Didn't get a chance to go down to Takashimaya on the last day of its 14th Craziest Toy Sale...

Pity! I wonder if I missed out any good stuff. *Sigh*

Also wanted to check out if DX GoseiGround is in stock at CSC already...

Why does it always rain whenever I want to go out? Ahah.

Takashimaya 14th Craziest Toy Sale (Day 10)

Was slightly not feeling well, so didn't managed to go down as often. LoL~

Anyway, decided to get the InrouMaru @ S$20.00 after some consideration (though it is abit useless without the ShinkenMaru).

I am a sucker when it comes to electronic gadgets that produce sound effects (in-show) and people probably think that I am dumb to waste money on this kind of toy of 5 year olds. Hahah.

Also bought this WolKaiser Candy Toy Kit (set of 2) @ S$6.00 to test my painting skills if I am free in the near future. It would be an interesting attempt to paint the Wolzard in his Fire Red form and see how it matches up when combined with Valkyrion.

No Shinkenger for South Korea

According to http://www.powerranger.co.kr, South Korea has decided to skip Samurai Sentai Shinkenger and instead opt to re-dub Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger as "Power Ranger Jungle Force" as the next succeeding series premiering on July 19.

While unsure of the official reason, people are speculating that the heavy Japanese elements in Shinkenger is mainly responsible and would be deemed too sensitive. That could also be the same reason why Hurricanger was skipped over in South Korea as well.

Strange enough, I do not think that the above is the case whereby South Korea is still touchy about its past Japanese Occupation during WWII. There are so many instances of bilateral co-operation and exchanges that happened over the years. Some examples include, Korean Singers singing in Japan, Japanese Anime Naruto (also Ninja Theme) airing in Korea.

Also, Bandai Korea will be re-issuing the Gaoranger toys for Jungle Force. Interested people, please check out: http://www.bandai.co.kr

The reason why I said re-issue was because South Korea used to air Korean-Dubbed Power Ranger Series which started from Season 1 all the way till Wild Force. Subsequently, they began dubbing Super Sentai Series as "Power Ranger" with "Dino Thunder" (Abaranger) onwards.

Weird...

Takashimaya 14th Craziest Toy Sale

It's the time of the year again!

14 July to 1 Aug 2010 @ B2

Got time off from night work yesterday, so I was able to go in the afternoon.

This year round was spectacular! The Sentai section was packed with goodies right to the brim. Too bad, I didn't have the chance to take a photo of it. A desperate move on Sheng Tai Toys' part it seems after disappointing sales in the past recent years.

After some consideration, I have decided to get the Highway Buster Set for the BearV Engine Soul @ S$20.00. Do you think it's worth it?

DX Mystic Brother and DX LeonCellular

When was the last time I went to CSC?

Oh, almost a month ago from my last related post.

The DX Mystic Brother is long overdue at Ng's Collections; it's the only place which still imports Sentai Toys nonetheless. Uncle Ng pointed it out to me immediately when I entered his shop. Hahah, good memory.

Perfect timing, the LeonCellular is also in stock. Auntie tried to ask me to get the LeonLaser as well, but didn't succeed. Nothing new in terms of concept-wise for the LeonCellular. In fact, it's a direct rip-off from last year's SushiChanger; they work exactly the same way - enter a 3-digit code to activate the sounds after closing the flip cover. The only difference would be the Hiden Disk and the Gosei Card. Still, I am loving the voice commands. *Gotcha*

Got a S$10.00 price tag discount from Uncle Ng which brings the two toys down to S$90.00.

Talk about LUCK...

Just so happened that I accumulated a number of $1 coins, so I decided to try my luck at the Gashapon Gosei Headder Series 1 (at Toys 'R' Us):

The Purple Dragon Headder is the exclusive piece of the lot, as part of the 4 Exotic Brothers that appeared in Goseiger Epic 8 and Bandai Japan did not release any Deluxe Set. Instead, they were designated as part of the Gashapon and Candy Toy series.

In the end, I wasted S$12.00 (4 x S$3.00 each) because I keep getting the stupid Phoenix Headders. It's not 2 but 3!!! Argh! At least give me a red Dragon Headder so that I can paint it myself...

I seriously doubt that the Gashapon Machine is fair at all. To think I can get 3 Phoenix Headders out of 4. It is certainly not 1/6 equal proportions. Boo!

Little Little Stuff...

Decided to drop by CSC to see if the DX Mystic Runner is in stock since site work ended early today.

Well, nothing at all as the shipment appears to be severely delayed. No confirmation on the arrival date, so I asked the Uncle to reserve it for me as usual.

Nonetheless, I still managed to buy something. Hahah.

*S.I.C. Kiwami Tamashii Kamen Rider Wild Chalice*

When Kamen Rider Blade was airing back in 2006 (for Singapore), there was no Wild Chalice for the Souchaku Henshin (S.H.) Series and the only toy was the Rider Hero (R.H.) Series Vinyl Figure. Not to mention that the details were terrible.

So, I think it's really nice to add him into my existing Kamen Rider Blade collection under this new S.I.C. Kiwami Tamashii Series. Got it @ S$16.00 after a S$2.00 discount from Uncle Ng.

Hahah, I also bought this little guy from the "Candy Toy" shop at Level 2.

*GoseiBlue Mascot Figure*

There's only the guys left (who bought all the girls?) but I chose only Blue in the end. Design is alittle weird at the helmet area; seems too elongated. S$6.00 is alittle expensive though.

Marketing Scams...

The season finale of Power Rangers Jungle Fury will be aired next week, and prices are starting to drop in attempt to redeem some sales.

Don't be fooled!

This is their only lousy strategy. 50% off? Who are you kidding? These are just about the retail prices in Hong Kong for the same toys. In other words, Singaporean consumers are treated like idiots.

Toy vs. Show Accuracy

This time round, I was alittle disappointed at the design by PLEX and Bandai Japan.

Nope, I am not talking about missing paints or articulation issues here; they are already inherent features of DX Sentai Mecha.

Today's topic: Transformation Accuracy

Normally, the transformations for the toys when compared to the show are dead-on. I can't recall if there is any instances whereby the transformation capability of the toy differs significantly from the show (for previous series). However, the current Gosei Headers are a tricky bunch this time round.

*Click for larger image*

As you can see from the image, all the various headder configurations of the various tribal formations for GoseiGreat are exposed on the underside of the toys. So everything is not very nice as they are obviously noticeable features that cannot be ignored.

The ones in the show are covered and the faces only revealed by a sliding mechanism when the formation sequence is triggered. The same design might be troublesome or not cost-effective to execute for the toys?

Hahah. Just wanted to point them out.

Tensou Gattai!

Remember that I asked Uncle Ng to reserve the DX Goseiger Mecha for me a month ago?

DX Datas Hyper @ S$75.00
DX Seaick Brother Set @ S$33.00
DX Landick Brother Set @ S$33.00
DX Skick Brother Set @ S$33.00

Total: S$174.00

LoL! The Uncle said that if I returned any later, he would probably be tempted to sell them off. The last few times I went, I was told that not many people were interested in this series and sales were slow moving for him. Then this time round, Uncle Ng says that the series is very popular and at a glance, everything was indeed sold out except for one DX GoseiGreat (Bandai Japan Version).

Sometimes, I can't help but wonder why his words are always so contradicting in nature?

Interestingly, he thought he would make a substantial amount of money from my reserves because the package is so big. He was quite disappointed when he pressed his calculator and exclaimed, "So little only?!" Ahahah!

Anyway, I managed to save some money as the "original" price tags set by Uncle Ng was around SS191.00. Actually, Uncle Ng was inclined to give me more discount (S$4) if I paid by cash. But I was lazy... Am I stupid? Hahah.

Next in line for releases:

-DX Mystic Runner
-DX GoseiGround

What's after RPM?

With the announcement of the new Power Rangers season, this question just pops up.

"What would be the next series of toys after RPM for Singapore?"

*Click for larger image*

As you all know, Singapore (along with the rest of South East Asia) is 2 years behind the current series airing in America. Hence, there's a possibility that Bandai Asia/Sheng Tai Toys might skip over MMPR Reversioned Series for the new samurai season?

For me, I would like to see the new MMPR toys in Singapore because of the nostalgic feeling and the chance for me to get the new remolded DX Megazord. Otherwise, it would be such a pity...

The American toys for the Shinkenger Adaptation can wait! Hahah, I wouldn't need anything beyond the standard action figures if they are decent at all in the first place.

I want the DX Dino Megazord! LoL~

The Power Is Back!

This great news came at quite a surprise! Especially for long-time fans!

Who would have thought that this was possible?! In short, it's like a MIRACLE!

--

To keep things short, Haim Saban (the original creator of the iconic 90's hit series "Power Rangers") bought back the rights from the Walt Disney Company, which took control of the franchise back in 2001. The deal is worth about US$100 million, according to a person familiar with the situation though Saban declined to comment on the price.

The new series of Power Rangers will be set to air in 2011 on Nickelodeon, which is Disney's primary rival in the kids' TV business. Currently, 20 new episodes have been confirmed. The catalog of 700 episodes (MMPR-RPM) will also be aired on the Nickelodean network.

A short flashback: "Power Rangers" was one of the most popular shows on the cable channel Fox Family that was acquired by Walt Disney Company in 2001 for US$3.2 billion. The acquisition included rights to the show, which later transferred to smaller cable channel Jetix, now known as Disney XD, as its popularity faded and now airs on ABC stations at different times.

"I think this property has significant legs going forward if it's in an environment where it is nurtured and supported as opposed to being part of a huge portfolio," Saban said. "I think 'Power Rangers' can flourish and be more impactful than it has been for the past five years."

[I totally agree with Saban's saying because Power Rangers definitely suffered badly during the Disney era.]

Now, let's listen to what Disney has to say: "The Power Rangers don’t fit with the Disney brand or with our long-term programming strategy," a company spokesman said in a statement.

[In that case, "Why hang on to the franchise for so long and let it die?" The better question is, "Why bought it in the first place?"]

For Nickelodeon, the "Power Rangers" deal is part of a push to air more programming that appeals to young boys. The Viacom Inc.-owned network recently made a similar deal to relaunch the popular 1980s cartoon "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

"This fits in nicely as we are doing more things specifically for boys, and we are excited to add proven properties to our original slate," said Nickelodeon President Cyma Zarghami.

Zarghami added that although "Power Rangers" was somewhat controversial in the 1990s for its violence, she didn't think the show's campy martial arts would bother many parents today.

--

Now, let's look forward to the new series in 2011!

In case you are wondering whether Shinkenger or Goseiger will be adapted, there is no confirmation on this issue, except that a Bandai Representative mentioned that the show will go back to adapting the new Super Sentai Series starting with the Samurai theme.

Just so you know, I totally hate the reversioned Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! Gosh, the effects are so god-damn retarded!

Tensouder & Gosei Buckle Set

It's my last paper today and no special programs. So why not go CSC?

It's either Uncle's business is really bad or Uncle's customers are getting lesser. LoL, I was trying to make the same reason sound different.

"It's been a month since you last came!", said Uncle Ng.

I was quite taken back as this is the first time he said this kind of thing; he's like monitoring who came and who didn't. Anyway, the DX Datas Hyper has arrived. So he quickly tried to persuade me to get it...

Apparently, very few people are interested in this year's Goseiger Mecha, so Uncle Ng will only make a one-time order and sell whatever is available. So it's bad news to me if I do not keep up with the series.

Anyway, I finally caved in and got the Tensouder & Gosei Buckle Set just for the Tensouder (because it's the only way I can get it). Uncle Ng quoted me at S$85.00 and I had to convince myself that this set is worth it for the additional cards. Hahah.

In the end, I requested Uncle Ng to reserve the DX Seaick, Landick, Skyick and Datas Hyper for me first, then I will return after a month to get it.

Show Me The Money...!

Hyper GoseiGreat debuted today; which means more money for Bandai Japan from my pocket.

To fulfill the combination, I would still need the 3 sets of Seaick, Landick, Skick Brother (2200yen x 3) and DX Datas Hyper (5500yen). After some conversion, I still need to fork out an estimated S$209.00!

Can I enter some cheat codes for more money? LoL~

Disappointment...

Been quite a while since I last went CSC because of all the projects and assignments.

Decided to slack today and go to CSC after my last lesson for the semester. Things are pretty quiet at CSC because there's no exciting releases...

Interestingly, Yamakawa managed to get back on its feet and brought in the GoseiGreat Candy Toy Set (selling @ S$30.00 per set). Oh, the DX Seaick and Landick Brother Sets are here at S$38.00 each. Gosh, EXPENSIVE! I didn't get them because those can wait...

However, today ended up being quite a disappointment because I didn't manage to get the Tensouder again.

The last time I went to get my DX GoseiGreat, Uncle Ng said that he would order the Tensouder from Bandai Asia for me. But the story I heard today was that he didn't want to order due to poor demand; can't help it as he had to consider his profits. Instead, he tried to coax me into getting the Tensouder + Card Buckle Belt Set. Still, I don't really give a damn and am disappointed. I guess he was also disappointed at me because I rebuked back at him saying that I might consider the online route.

Maybe in the first place, he shouldn't even place too much orders for these sets because who the heck would want the belt?

A glance at the online stores:

Hobby Link Japan: 4,500 yen + 740 yen (by SAL) = S$77.10

CS Toys International: 4,500 yen + 800 yen = S$77.98

Sianz, the Uncle did offered me S$80.00 for the whole set, but the point is really the stupid belt...

Easy to take out; Hard to put back

DX GoseiGreat has been out on my desk for more than 1 week already, and I decided to put it back into the box.

It's the scariest thing ever... The dragon wings once attached are firmly secured to the main body, but I need to take them apart to fit them back into the box! I managed to detach the right wing with minimal damage but the left one was too firm...

So, I attempted one more time with alittle more force but to no avail. Scary! In the end, I had to unscrew the panels to detach the left wing! Gosh, I wonder how am I going to deal with it the next time...

Definitely going to think twice before taking it out again. Maybe just the final combination?

My Birthday Present!

Tensou Gattai DX GoseiGreat

This couldn't come at a better time! I got it for myself as a birthday present! LoL~

Lecture ended at 2pm, but it was raining heavily, so I went to print some notes and waited for the rain to stop. Then I tried to call Uncle Ng but I couldn't get through somehow, so I decided to try my luck in going down to CSC directly...

The Uncle was happy to see me because new stock just arrived (I saw the date 3/18 on the cardboard boxes) and he breathed out a sigh of relief. Hahah, he got rid of one liability (accounting term)! Plus, he finally have something to sell because there's practically nothing much left in the shop since last week.

I was pretty lucky (maybe cuz it's my birthday!) to finally get my hands on DX GoseiGreat! This Bandai Asia (Hong Kong) Import Version costed me S$90.00; the Uncle gave me a S$5.00 discount. Yeah!

Abit tempted to get the Candy Toy Version after I saw the review pictures. LoL~

Nothing at CSC...

There's nothing (no Super Sentai or Kamen Rider stuff) at CSC today, so the Uncle was trying his best to promote the remaining Transformers Toys he have...

Hence, no Goseiger Toys yet. Hahah, will have to wait around one week or so for the Hong Kong Import Versions. *Sigh*

Bandai Japan or Hong Kong Import?

It's been a while since I last went to CSC, especially when the new Super Sentai Series "Tensou Sentai Goseiger" has started. *All the school assignments, projects and tests*

Decided to head down to CSC because I so happen to have no classes today! I reached at around 3 plus and there were alot of "customers" in the shop. If you are thinking why did I put the word in quotation marks, is because they are not really customers but a bunch of brats loitering in the shop (as described by the uncle).

Yeah, I do find them a little irritating as well. They are looking at this and that while discussing (as if they know everything) at the top of their voices. Hahah, the Uncle is more than mildly annoyed because they are of no "business value", I presumed.

Nothing is left on the shelves, except the Goseiger Belts. No more SH figures, changers, blasters or mecha. The same goes for the Kamen Rider S.H. Figuarts. Behold, the appeal of cards!

Actually, Uncle Ng still has one DX Gosei-Great (Japanese Version) in his back store and I was debating whether to get it or not. In addition, he told me that the Hong Kong Import Version will be S$25 cheaper. On one hand, I was tempted to get the Japanese Version because I really like Gosei-Great's design, and on the other hand, I am super broke this year! (I mean it, my bank account is approaching the lower limit of S$XXX.XX)

Eventually, I gave up as the Uncle wanted to go for a smoking break. I am going to wait for the Hong Kong Import Version @ S$90 which will probably arrive next week.

Note: Hong Kong Import Version refers to the Japanese Version which is distributed by Bandai Asia (Hong Kong) with an additional Bandai Asia sticker. The actual Hong Kong re-issue will only be in the late 2012.

New Marketing Strategy?

Halfway into Power Rangers Jungle Fury already, but the toys aren't selling.

It's too obvious; the prices are freaking expensive.

So I was at Toys 'R' Us (Tampines Mall), and I happened to see this "Try Me" Deluxe Jungle Pride Megazord. I was quite amused at first, because this is the first time that Sheng Tai Toys actually attempted some marketing/promotional tactic.

Picked up the toy and immediately felt that there was a slight plastic quality difference (the Hong Kong re-issue is Made In China as opposed to the the Original Made In Thailand). I might be wrong as I haven't touch my DX GekiTouja for a very long time. Perhaps, the poorer plastic quality is just psychological. Hahah.

Anyway, the Jungle Pride Megazord was superglued (at the legs, and fists) together (and chained to a point) to prevent theft. So, consumers cannot separate it into the Tiger, Cheetah and Jaguar, but only restricted to the "Savage Spin" Action. That being said, the toy doesn't even have batteries inserted, so it can do nothing!

Hence, I hardly call it promoting because consumers are so restricted and it sort of gave everything the counter-effect.

Random-ness

Spent S$3.00 on the Gashapon Machine at Toys 'R' Us (Tampines Mall). LoL~ Super Shinken-Pink, mairu!

"Remastered" MMPR

It's obvious that the double quotation marks means that the outcome is for the worse.

I almost fainted when I saw the "remastered" special effects!

Disney is trying its best to kill off the franchise in the most epic way: Butcher the original first series which made the show so popular in the 90s. With this, I declare that Power Rangers: Rest In Peace 1993-2009 with RPM as the official last season.

I miss RPM already! Chances of future Sentai adaptations are slim by the looks of it.

I don't even know what are they trying to achieve by adding such cheapskate effects in the background and turning it into a 60s comic show.

Witnessed the "awesome" effects already with the opening:

Megazord of the Rising Sun!

Look! We need subtitles!

Maybe, it's good to have some introductions of the villains, but perhaps it should not be done in the 60s comic style.

"Awesome" flipping! We really need that...!

More "special effects!"

And now, for spelling lessons! Proudly presented by Disney:

Just when you thought you have seen it all...

So there's stars, arrows and hearts! Wow!

All together! Power Rangers!!!

We need Dinozord Power now!

So it has come to this point that kids do not know that the Tyrannosaurus belongs to the Red Ranger?! Or we need more spelling lessons?!

Ending credits are removed all together, and overlayed with the footage near the end of the episode. RPM copycat!

Honestly, I wasn't much of a fan of the original series but as a kid back then, I was super fascinated with the super heroes and robotic dinosaurs concept though. Now that, we have all grown up, and looking back at the original series, I can't help but notice that the whole story-telling was super cheesy, and the editing was so terrible. Despite all the glaring faults, it worked during its time and transformed the genre/franchise into a global phenomenon!

Clearly, what worked 17 years ago will most probably not work today and the "remastering" made everything worse. Everything now is lamer than ever, and I sincerely hope that Disney isn't really trying to kill the franchise in this manner.

Update: Just found out that the episode count will only be 32 as well.
